Sharing you liked most and liked least

It was June 17, 2014 when we had our second meeting in IT Elective 1 Technopreneurship one of my subjects this year’s semester, and it was really informative.  It was a worth day indeed. It was hilarious because of my classmates showcasing their talents and me also, it is their consequence for being late that day and being absent on our last meeting, many talents were discovered, while the others explained why they was absent last meeting.  And if the students got absent for one meeting, they should bring some evidence to prove that they are absent because of valid exculpations. That evidence may be a medical certificate or medical note and a letter that has a signature of parents. As they call them to stand in front to tell the reason for having not to attend the last meeting. It seems some of the reasons are they enrolled the subject on Friday some of the reason additionally are that they postulate that our instructor would not meet during our schedule. And after that, Sir starts the class and he shared something. This is my second time that I heard that phrase. This phrase represents a person that he had a good intention to his students. It means that he live not to have much money, but teaching as his fashion. He teaches not because he is a teacher that can teach many students, but he wants us to learn more the way he teaches.  As sir RSG thinking for some activities, I was amaze as we start to have our yellow paper out and our black ballpen. As of what happen next was the most exciting thing and the most amazing thing to keep in mind? Many of the class doesn’t have their own papers and ballpens. As for the penalty, was to buy the one sheet of paper for fifty pesos and the ballpen for one hundred pesos. I was amazed of sir RSG of what he taught into us. He taught us of what is the essence of a real entrepreneur. I also bought a sheet of yellow paper to Mr. Jumawan that cost of fifty pesos and then sir RSG gave a task an exercise the “9Dots”. The first instruction in our activity is to right our name (Lastname, Firstname MI.) in the upper left corner of our paper. In our first activity, sir RSG showed us nine (9) dots. These dots form a square with three dots in each of three rows. The instruction given is to connect all dots using four strokes without lifting the pen. When I saw the dots and heard the instruction, I am thinking if how I am going to do it. I am a bit confused on how to start connecting those dots. I am focused on the activity. I always give an intent look to the dots. I made a lot of nine dots and trying my very best just to achieve to connect the dots in just a four strokes only, but I failed to do it.  I really liked the first activity prepared by sir RSG about the nine dots and the lesson it has. The message of our first activity is not to depend always on the possible options that can be found in our environment especially if we have not yet seen the solution on our problems. Instead of just using the existing alternatives, why not try to look for much better solutions and explore more things beyond our limitations until we get satisfied with the answer on our problems.
Sir  RSG explain “HOW” in four (4) strokes the puzzle was solve, while us it’s very amazing possible answer that solve by Kuya Bern. So sir RSG said “Think Outside The Box” there was a question keep running on my mind when my classmate made “Think outside the Box”. What does this “Think outside the Box” means? Why is that he went beyond the boundaries and did not stay inside the box? Also, my concern is that our instructor did not tell us to go outside the box. Also, we did not ask for the possibility of going beyond on the corners of the box and it’s like amazing things happen in our daily life that we need to be aware to our environment. So when sir RSG is done about the “9Dots”, he discussed also the mind-set of some people, when sir RSG started the discussion all in the class are listen. We always in the mindset of an old generation that we and our both parents said that you go to school, be a studious student to get higher grades and become most intelligent in your school and to find a job that have a big or higher wage, to yourself, your family and who need a help other people. He started the lecture by presenting his slides that include the topics of Technopreneurship. Sir RSG explained thoroughly the definition of Technopreneur and how it was vary from the word Technology and Entrepreneur. What I had learned about the things that Sir RSG said is that in order to become an entrepreneur, we must start up a business first.  In order to start our own business, we must have the qualification of being a business minded and an attitude that really fits for building a business. Technopreneurship is similar to entrepreneurship. Technology is the only thing that technopreneurs were furnished. It is pretty obvious that there business is evolves in the world of technology. Aside from selling new high tech innovative gadgets, sometimes they sell their own ideas to different companies whether it is in private or public sector that badly needs their idea for their business. Technology plays a massive impact in the lives of everyone. So I’ve got an inspiration to create an ideas to make our city known to the other places outside the beautiful land of the Philippines, and can compete to the other fastest growing companies of the technology matter. And also sir RSG have that dream so I inspire his sharing and I think it was big, and really bright, full of positivity. He’s ultimate dream if I were not mistaken to hear it, he wants that Davao to shine brightly like a sun. It’s not like bright as literally like it will have all the lights in the whole country but what I mean is that he wants the Davao to be the top of all the places in the Philippines as the center of IT business as well as other field of business. This dream is not really difficult, it’s just SO DIFFICULT. Honestly, I find it impossible. Imagine if you will bring the Davao on top, it really needs a lot of efforts as well as money. This dream is not just like “I want to have a luxurious car someday” or “I will have that house someday”. It’s not for himself but for the Davao City. Davao is just a city that is new to advance technology and embrace this not so long ago unlike other cities in the Philippines like Manila. He talks about how he started his step to work out on his dream and that made me focus more on him. In what I remembered, the first step I guess starts when he and his friend was called out and told them that they were going to the Australia. The purpose of going to the other country was not to have a pleasure trip. Going to Australia was to learn something new with a given period of time. Our facilitator said as he shared his experience that they were supposed to spend months in Australia for studying. There were a financial support for the two of them and all they need to do is to say yes and ride with the plane destined to Australia. But the next thing that he reveals was not what I was expecting in that moment. So when the go back to the Philippines with his friend they have sweet cold conversation about to the Australia they saw there have a more “hi-tech” and there economic was very fast growing IT business, so they propose to the CHED of Technoprenuership means “Techno” – Technology and “preneurship”- cames from Entrepreneurship means is the process of identifying and starting a new business venture, sourcing and organizing the required resources, while taking both the risks and rewards associated with the venture. That’s why they make a new name of entrepreneurship the Tehcnoprenership. The topic shared by Sir Randy is all about the Rationale of Technopreneurship (Davao Academe Perspective). It has an outline that consists of five (5) topics, namely: The Usual Mindset, The Alternative Mindset, The Macro Strategy, The Ecosystem, and lastly, the SEED curriculum. As what I have heard while he shares the history of this module, Sir Randy together with his colleagues made this because they want to put Technopreneurship subject in the curriculum of IT Education degrees in every school that offers Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) and Bachelor of Science in Information Management (BSIM) courses here in Mindanao, particularly in Davao City. Way back then, Sir Randy together with his friend had given a chance to study Technopreneurship in Australia but instead of grabbing the opportunity, they chose to bring the Australians here in the Philippines that have knowledge in Technopreneurship and gather the Deans of BSIT, BSCS and BSIM in every school in Region XI, as well as partnering in local organizations here in Davao. With that gathering, they had meeting, lecturing and monitoring sessions about technopreneurship held in different hotels. The presentation and reviewing of the module with some invited students and faculty has been made and after that, they launched successfully the Technopreneurship course. I really liked their advocacy because they are not doing it for the betterment of their selves but they want to help their society, as well as their countrymen. This kind of advocacy creating a way to make changes in the technology we had experience because through technopreneurship, we can think innovative ideas and we can share our innovations that will surely benefit the people and also, we could earn money. I really like the outlined topics in the module “Rationale of Technopreneurship” because for me, we could learn a lot in which we could apply in starting up a business.  So the Usual Mindset is the first topic discussed by Sir RSG in his prepared slides. “Go to school, get good grades, and land in a high-paying job”, this quoted line is best describes what usual mindset is. This example I think all both parents think of this kind mindset to their children mostly the reason why our parents send us to school is because they want us to learn new things to be able to get good grades and to have a good job that has a high salary. And this kind of mindset swallowed by students nowadays. It is not that bad to have a usual mindset and it is not always about getting high salary for being an employee. Upon taking this course, student trained how to be an entrepreneur. To define it technopreneur is the person who destroys the existing economic order by introducing new products and services, by creating new forms of organizations and by exploiting new raw materials. It is someone who perceives an opportunity and creates an organization to pursue it. A person who undertakes risks that has the chance of profit. Technopreneurs distinguishes themselves through their ability to accumulate and manage knowledge as well as their ability to mobilized resources to achieve a specified business or social goal. By that then, an equipped graduate can be produce, a competitive, skilled graduate will be develop. Graduates will no longer seek a second option which is land into a good job instead they will be able to establish their own company. By the knowledge they have they are confident enough to manage and be productive. Our best graduates are sought after by companies, offering attractive compensation packages. Our best graduates are lured to these companies- usually from Cebu, Manila and other urban provinces. Our average graduates remain in Davao but find it hard to land in good-paying jobs. By that then, an equipped graduate can be produce, a competitive, skilled graduate will be develop. Graduates will no longer seek a second option which is land into a good job instead they will be able to establish their own company. By the knowledge they have they are confident enough to manage and be productive. Advantage when there are competitive graduates are, First good implication when we can produce competitive graduates is that, venture capitalist will invest in their viable high- technology products. They will be encourage to put industry which help to rise up the economy of our place. Opportunities towards the people. Merging of business which can help those small capitalist to rise up their venture. In that sense everyone is have a chance. Second blossoms and attracts investors. When there are equipped and suitable competent workers, job opportunities will come to you. Investors will be encourage to invest into an atmosphere where they are confident, where they can see they can earn profits out of their capital. When there is competency price value rising up. Next is their start-ups mature into stable IT enterprises. There must be a ground for those who staring up to those aspirant where they can freely showcase their ideas. Then we will be able to compete in domestic and global markets and sour economic growth in the locality. With an equipped knowledge confidence and competent we can be a proud and a pride of our place. We will be recognized in other country, the demands, they will prior those with competent. And what I liked the most during our discussion in our class. I don’t find it boring, I didn’t feel sleepy even I only slept for two hours the night before the meeting. Unlike other classes that I attend in where the teacher are just lecture about the subject topics while everybody is so serious. But during that day even the topic must be listed in serious manner I still see it enjoyable and knowledgeable. And our adviser is also a very good joker even he is so strict when it comes to the project and the checking of the all requirement. The class become a seminar session I learn a lot not just only what are stated on the slides but also in life that it will going to be an roller coaster , you need to patient and wait for the right time to excel and you will become successful. Like our adviser he success on his race to provide better education for the people and he is so proud of that. And we also his student are proud too. He will become our role model to our success.
Liked Least
Honestly I really had a hard time by figuring out what part of our sharing did I liked least because I was really interested to learn that time and I wanted learn every single information I can get because when sir randy teaches he is really entertaining and he has a lot of lines which can really capture your attention specially when he teaches real life situation I also love the way he looks at things. Like when he says something bad about our other teachers and waves at the cctv. Sir RSG is very entertaining facilitator. A teacher or a professor is someone who teaches a student to what he or she had known. Students learn from teachers and teachers learn from students it is a give and take process to which both parties would benefit. By planning their teaching to achieve progression of learning through identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed, setting tasks which challenge students and ensure high levels of interest, setting appropriate and demanding expectations by mean of letting the students follow the instructions from the professor, setting clear targets, building on prior attainment, be aware of and make provision for students who are AEN/SEN, very able, LAC or who have other particular individual needs, providing clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge, making effective use of assessment and ensure coverage of programmes of study, ensuring effective teaching and best use of available time, maintaining discipline in accordance with the school's procedures and encouraging good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework, using a variety of teaching methods to match approach to content, structure information, present a set of key ideas and use appropriate vocabulary and use effective questioning, listen carefully to students, give attention to errors and misconceptions, select appropriate learning resources and develop study skills through library, ICT and other sources Last meeting after the activity that we did which is the 9 dots we proceed to the lecture proper and sir already started discussing about technopreneurship this is the part of the sharing which I think I liked least but I still find it interesting. It is that time when he asked us who is the richest people right now? I really wonder who is the richest people right now. Then sir told us that it is not what we are thinking. The richest business man today is not the richest man. Then I questioned myself who is it? Sir RSG pointed us and said that you are the richest people today because you got the knowledge and information on this generation. Do you remember one of the famous reporter in the “abs-cbn”? Mr. Ernie Baron, that man has a tag line every end of his report that “kung walang knowledge walang power”. It just hard to imagine that Davao city became the provider of the best graduate. But we are just the provider we don’t need to celebrate for that because we don’t getting anything for those graduates just the honor that they give to their school. And their work and hard to improve one community, city or a country are not the places in where they really came from. Because of the lack of IT industries here in Davao City almost of our excellent graduates do travel to other places or country to seek for the companies who can give them better offer compare to the places they came. We teach students and maintain standards that needed to be imposing for better quality of the knowledge of the student and not quantity of the students, and when they graduated as the best the community cannot meet the standard of the student. I might not the excellent type of student that all of the teacher will salute and shake my hands when I graduated, but there is only thing that I can promise that I will provide everything what I can for the future of the place where I came from. Technopreneurship is a subject wherein Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship is combined. Technology which means that internet is the purposeful application of information in the design, production, and utilization of good and services, and in the organization of human activities. Another is Innovation which is a systematic act of turning something which is a product, idea, information, technology and anything into a resource that is of high value to its target market and lastly Entrepreneurship is a practice of consistently converting good ideas into profitable commercial ventures. This simply means that having an idea to become a basic income to which you will gain a much bigger money to what you have invested. And to who will be the one to manage it is not just someone who starts his or her own, new and small business. So our professor sir RSG had called for a panel for them to approve the new curriculum that they want. So when they arrived here in Davao City and explain to what are the possible benefits of this subject? Davao City is a place where many students wish to study because of its high standard quality of education. Specifically speaking the university which is the University of Southeastern Philippines without being arrogant molded many graduates with a high quality standard education. Our professor’s dream is just simple which is to make Davao City competitive to other places just like other places. But as a result fresh graduated from Davao City only makes Cebu and Manila the places makes them more advance in technology. For in the first place it is to where they graduated has the first priority of having that privilege. It is also good because the places which they are going is only a part of the Philippines but it is much better if it is at Davao City. And I think this is one of the key of success to the innovation of what you want to do sir RSG told about word SEED. Our professor had tackled about the word SEED. A seed is just a thing when watered correctly it will grow, and when watered more it will also grow more. Just like an idea when it is nurtured more than that small idea would become a bigger idea and would also result to helping the community to become easier. As our professor sir RSG had tackled the word SEED stands for Self Mastery, Environment, Enterprise and the last one is Development. Self-mastery as to what I have understand is a way where in your small idea should become to a reality in which you will be able to master it. In making a project this would require a help from the others and which would also be the way to make that idea possible. A project is a planned set of interrelated tasks to be executed over a fixed period and within certain cost and other limit. To think as a technopreneurs, to do as technopreneurs does is really hard, but once you get used to it, then everything will be normal and suddenly you will find yourself loving what you are doing and you will inspire others based on your experiences as a technopreneurs. All in all as I listen to Sir RSG speaking, he wants us to be a good technopreneur students, he want us to acquire the talent of thinking, he wants us to be disciplined, he wants us to stay in the city to work here, to create jobs here as an employer, he want his students to contribute for the evolution of the city. I want to be part of the change of the city, because Davao City is the city where I lived now and forever, and I will try my best to stay in the city as long as I could and I will try to contribute to the city’s progress as an IT student. Default mindset  though this one is what I considered as the one that I liked the least, it does not mean that it has all the negative facts, but it has given us the idea on how or what are the things that should be considered and changed. I have realized that I can use this type of mindset inorder for me to excel more and will be able to have the idea to improve and be fitted to the alternative mindset. One thing is for sure, the knowledge. This thing should not be lost in any of us because whatever type of mindset we believed in or whatever level we reach, if we do not or even if we lack this big thing then everything is nothing. So, technopreneurship has really been a very big factor in the field of IT because this could even be considered as the brain of any businesses that involves the presence of high technology. What could this technologies’ help in a certain city or locality if there is nobody who knows on how to use these things. But as an individual who belongs to the information technology field, it only depends to me if I wanted to help to propel the economy of Davao or will I just consider myself as an employee and get paid. Laptops, smartphones, ipods, and many more technologies, it will be all for nothing if we do not know how to use it in a productive way. Another I least like is not following rules. The student always takes their decision, if they are going to follow rules or not. But rules is rules, they can break the rules if they are not the one who made for that. We are supposed to follow the rules of the school but other students are not following it. They forgot to wear the complete and proper uniform. Usually, boys are most of the students who didn't wear proper uniform. They only wear polo shirt and colored pants when they entered the university. And for the girls is they didn’t insert sometimes. Our era now is in the world of technology. As everything our facilitator shared in our class is everything is true. Every single scenario he shared, we came to realized that is happening now. But because of that knowledge we can use it as a lesson or a tool that we can change about it. Particularly the default mindset. Whether you tell me or not, we have that kind of mindset. And now that we are given the opportunity to know them all, I think it’s the time to change our mindset. I mean it’s never too late to make things better and it’s surprising that even Values Education is not part of the curriculum, you can learn it from this subject. I learn how to be a positive person even dreams are look like difficult to achieve. I learn that how effort matters to attain the success. I also find out that other’s stories really can touch one’s life like what happened to me. I also just value more the importance of education. I felt lucky to have a chance for a person like me to seek possibilities in attaining my dreams.  Davao will no longer stay as thin as we are now, it will no longer be just provider of the best who only help other places. Soon enough, it will become what they wanted to be. Also, for the average graduates, it will no longer be hard for them to find good-paying jobs since we will have many companies here that will cater all the soon to be graduates of Davao. When that happens, I will surely come back here. I may not come back for good since I am not from here but who knows, if good opportunity is really found here already, why not. I will not hesitate also to decide to stay for good here. If the investors locate a good view for the business. I am with today and for the rest of my college life. It is about independency. At this age, we learn to be independent in making our own decisions and on making our future. We may ask something from our parents but we limit them to the minimum because we are already capable of doing what they can do. We are starting to develop ourselves on making our future and it depends on us on what and how we make our future. Starting from the beginning, we need to be focused on the things that we do. We need to be dedicated to make our dreams come true and for us to be able to live a happy life soon in the future. And most likely more people are tend to apply in companies that are located here that will surely give them enough salary. But it always depends on the people who are handling the situation, especially the one that will be deciding on the employment, if he or she will be accepting the job or not. If I will be that man, I will get a job that I will be assigned in Davao City. I guess it will be worth it if you will contribute something from where you came from and where you grew up. It will be an honor to me to work in a prestigious workplace wherein you can contribute development and will have great impact on the work environment. As you know to yourself that you are comfortable of living in this place and working with this work area, I will be satisfied and will never go far away just to find high salary paying companies. They may pay you the minimum wage for your job but it will serve as an inspiration to keep you on working hard. You will continue to persuade yourself that you are working for you to achieve a specific amount of salary and someday for a good position or higher position in the company that you are working for. That will always be a wonderful experience if that will happen to me. And lastly, study hard for you to achieve and reach your dreams one day.  Dream big for there is nothing wrong with dreaming. Do all you can do in order for your dreams to be reached and for you to succeed in life. I am thankful that I’ve witness the sharing that our facilitator did during our last meeting because through that sharing I was able to learn many things from different aspects of life.

Hoping someday that here in Davao City I can help and produce more ideas to make our city best of the best among the rest cities and dream high for your future and “Don’t be afraid to follow your dream” and thanks to our facilitator because they facilitate well and if you dream it will make it real if you strived hard, be an employer to yourself not to be an employee because we want the best. God Bless Us All !!
