TEAM BUILDING AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS SEMINAR

On the 21st of July this year we’re having an interpersonal skill seminar and team building activity we held the activity in University of Southeastern Philippines in there Social Hall. So in that day I wake up early because the team building start at 8 am and we must be at school before 8 in the morning so that we will have the chance to prepare and arrange the venue. But there were circumstances that we cannot avoid to happen and one of this is that the official of the Social Hall came and opened the venue almost 8 am. So with this kind of situation, we were all in a hurry to decorate and arrange the chairs because the director of the UGTO and at the same time our lecturer in the seminar have arrived and we must start right away to cover the things that are in line in the objective of the event and to finish the said event early. Having this kind of encounter is a reminder to inculcate that time management is really important. This activity is a part of the Field Trip Seminar and to make us how to manage a time that will can make us a good time management and this activity can make good relationship to our fellow classmates and to know more about each other and also we must put it in our mind that we are not only the one that will be get into trouble but also the people in the group or in the class will be affected. They have things that I really liked to see and one of this is the cooperation and participation of everyone really on of the best thing to succeed the activity or the team work among the class. As I have witnessed, through the hard work of our class officers and also helping and cooperating with each other is the main reason why we successfully had an interpersonal skill. We are group and yes, we worked also as a group with different tasks to perform and for me that is the best mind-set we execute at that day. It is really sad to hear knowing that it should be a group work then unfortunately our actions does not fit with what we say “group work”. Honestly, I really admire the way our class president handled us because she is truly committed with her work and she’s good in that team skill building, she gave her best in that activity. Without her guidance and also her words of encouragement, we cannot make it in our own and herself is very nice to us that can us really easy to approach to her. We start our activity in forming a group. Each group has a mix of day and evening students which has the aim to know others aside from the usual classmates we have. As we were able to group ourselves, knowing the names with the members happen. We were also asked to do an activity and it was naming our group. I find this activity so fun because of the kind of people that surrounds me that time. I could say that our group was one of the energetic groups because all of us jive in bringing up some ideas regarding with the activity that was ask to us. It was really funny to name a group. I was helplessly laughing in that time when we agreed to name our group as “Hello Kitty Love Daniel Padilla”. It was not the original name of our group and it was supposed to be name as “Boy Over Flowers” but, since we are seven in the group and there are many girls and I’m only the male in the group that’s why the name of the group “Hello Kitty Love Daniel Padilla”. After the naming of our group, we perform the activity which is providing the expectation and contributions of this activity. I was enjoyed in doing that activity to the fact that we’re getting along with each other and ignores the shyness we have and other person in that activity they know each other and some are only the faces of the person but not the attitude. Aside from knowing them through getting along and observing to them, I enjoyed listening to the other group’s ideas. I was amaze that each of us has common ideas regarding with the expectations and contributions with this activity. The ideas that we just shared in the whole class means that each of us was willing to make this seminar exciting and successful. But as the discussion goes by, I just have realized that it is really important knowing that we came from different programs, which is evening and day program and not all of us knew each other personally and also, we have different personalities to deal with. We will spent the rest of the first semester together so it is not good to see if we will not give any attention or simply by saying “hi or hello” to our classmates for a reason that we never knew them literally or we are just too shy to show the first move. Having this interpersonal skill in our chosen model is really a big help for us as an individual and as a group and make us good relation to each other. It showed us who we really are and the things that we must continue and also the things in ourselves that need for improvements or changes. Interpersonal skills are just like a communication skills that we should possess everyday in our lives and that’s why we shared our idea and feelings. The ideas that we just shared in the whole class means that each of us was willing to make this seminar exciting and successful. After sharing of thoughts about the first activity, we proceed to the second activity which was the original first activity or the first session and it was called as the Paperclip Story. It was interesting as to its title. Since it was a paperclip story, each of us was provided some paperclips and we were ask to choose a color that represents us. We were also instructed to form a shape that signifies the real us. I could say that this activity was a great one. It let us see the real us and know much more our classmates. Each of the paperclips has own meaning of it that we need to share to everyone. With its color and the formed shape and I form a “Gift Shape” in that shape I shared it into my co-members, it has own significance that needs acceptance and understanding. Part of the activity is to share why you formed that shape and why you chose that color that signifies you as a being. From this activity, I was able to know how my co-members understand their selves and it amaze me how brave and willing they are to show their real selves. I was able to understand that all of us are unique. One of us her personality depends to the people that surround her. One is an open-minded person, one has passion in music and adventurous in their life, and many more things that can be relate to ourselves basing the shapes we form with our paperclips. And that’s we need to communicate and to interact with other people for us to know their sides, feelings or opinions and also to have a good relationship with them. Interpersonal skill is like a bridge to know the things that we are not aware with other people through socializing with them. Having good interpersonal skills is one of the key to be a successful in our chosen path. It taught me how to be a listener as well as sharing my thoughts and opinion to other people. It is also an eye opener for me to broaden my understanding when it comes to the things that needs to be aware of. And I forgot to say that our theme we had in our interpersonal skill seminar is called “Journey to Inner Space: Key to Effective Interpersonal Skills”. Aside from the activity, we also had the chance to understand the things discussed by our instructor. She stressed out the advantages as well as its disadvantages and the components of the interpersonal skills that we must have to imply in ourselves to have effective interpersonal skills. Though sometimes I felt sleepy whenever she discussed something in front but all the things she had shared, I learned a lot. Honestly, most of the things that our facilitator discussed are very new for me; I mean I never encounter those term that are actually called and found in the identity of one person. I am not perfect and I believe that no one is perfect, so some of the not so beautiful things in one person mentioned by our facilitator are found in me or I may say that I always do like depending on the others. With this kind of encounter, it awakened me to change my attitude and improved myself more and I need to accept the past happened also the happening in my life. A lot of reflections pertaining to myself I made in that day. I also learned that we must not compare ourselves to other people and we must respect them when it comes to their lives because we do not have the same journey or path and experiences we took. I just realized also that to be able to be a better person towards other we should be a good listener, interact them with respect and understand every situation they will be facing. Aside from the seminars, we also experience what they called team building. Our class officers prepared a three game and in every game there were also different group so we had the chance to know other classmates aside from the original one. In the team building I can see the cooperation and participation among the group. There was also sharing of ideas for the techniques and strategies to be applied in every game and I realized that as time goes by, there were no hesitation and shyness towards other. It is really nice to see that we are united as one, and helping each other to win the game. After the sharing of the sad and happy stories about the dining table, we proceed to the team building activity which makes the whole class enjoyed much. The team building activity was through playing games with different members as the game will change. The first game was the “Connected”, I’m not sure of the title of the game we played but I remember that it has “connect” or “connected”. For the first time, I belong to a group were I don’t really know my group mates. There are few of them that I know them through their faces and names but it was my first time to talk end be with them. Actually, the game went fun and good. All of us are like crazy, jumping all around and shouting to the other members to move the cord to their body as fast as they could. Though we lose the game, being with the other people who you just knew is like you won since you gain friends which is very helpful to make the FTS successful in the future as we go together to attend the major field trip. I learn that cooperation and understanding to each other is very important for a group. It’s really a big help as we go to the minor and major field trips not only to enjoy more the activities and the trip but also to learn together and stick together as one. With all the activities we had in that day, though it was a tiring day, I was very thankful that I was able to attend that kind of activity. As we learn to accept others, understand each other, and being bonded in that day, makes a difference. A difference that even though we are very unique to each other, we can solve whatever problems may arrive soon and we can be happy and be bonded together and make us good relationship to anyone that can make better to everyone and don’t be afraid to follow your dream and  God bless us and our trip in Manila.
